Abstract

Annual monitoring of anopheline mosquitoes was performed in high-risk regions for vivax malaria in 2018. Mosquito
collection was carried out for seven months from April to October, using black-light traps at 20 sites located in Incheon
metropolitan city, Gyeonggi-do, and Gangwon-do province. A total of 26,108 vivax malaria vector mosquitoes was collected.
This number was 9.7% lower than the mean value of last five years and 108.6% higher than that in 2017. With the seasonal
fluctuations, the vector mosquito population started a sharp increase in August, peaked with the highest density, and then
showed a rapid decrease. The continuous monitoring of anopheline mosquitoes should be strengthened to forecast the
increasing point of vivax malaria vectors in time and develop the proper vector control measures.
